Went to watch “Kung Fu Panda” on Fri with Ming-kun, Jesse & Wei but were joined for dinner by Siew Mai and Yuyuan and yes, the animation was hilarious but this is not what I’m going to blog about. We got into a mini argument during dinner because they were slamming how NUS did not and does not give its students guidance in terms on how to write their CVs, cover letters and interview ‘tips’ – unlike SMU. PUHLEEESE. Why the heck do you want a uni to nanny you? Fine. They insist that they didn’t want the uni to nanny but to give some sense of guidance. Hello. You’re adults. You can go and find out how to write a CV and cover letter yourself. There are tons of books and the internet is a wealth of information too. My bro didn’t study in NUS and his uni didn’t teach him how to write a CV. Of course I can understand people’s lack of direction in terms of writing a CV, especially if its your first time. Nonetheless, the university isn’t secondary/ high school. Just be a little more independent for goodness’ sakes.

By the way, if one were more enterprising, you’d be starting to sign up with online job websites and they provide lots of information on classes on how to write a proper cover letter and CV. *Shakes head* Same goes for the working world. Your colleagues and bosses aren’t going to teach you how to do your job better. They just teach you the basic techniques and then you’re on your own.

My cousin’s msn nick is “I wish Singaporeans would stop complaining” and I agree with her to a certain extent. We’re just a bunch of lazy bastards who want things to be handed to them nicely. Worse thing is that the younger generation wants this instantly as well. Gosh. What is the world coming to? I fear that Singapore might turn into another Japan where there are NEETOs and adults leeching off their parents who belong to the saving generation. News – get off your posterior and stop expecting institutions to give you everything that you need/ want. If you don’t expect it, you’ll work towards it yourself and when you DO get help, it’ll be a pleasant surprise.
