I realised that I have been cooking but not posting up a lot of the photos of the foods that I’ve cooked recently so here they are:
The above breakfast was a result of me being sick and tired of eating cold salami, fruit and yoghurt for breakfast when we were in Italy so the day we were back in London, I cooked myself scrambled eggs on top of English muffin and cheddar cheese. Simple but delish considering the no. of cold breakfasts…
During Hari Raya, we were all a bit lazy to really go out so I cooked Oyako-don. To those who understand Japanese, you’ll understand the pun since I cooked this for my parents too. My Oyako-don is really simple. All you have to do is:
- Cut chicken thigh into large cubes and marinate them with light soy sauce, mirin and a pinch of sugar (remember to cook the rice before you do this)
- Thinly slice large pearl onions
- In a separate bowl, beat up eggs (2 eggs/pax or 1.5 if they’re large eggs) with a tablespoon of light soy sauce, a little bonito broth (or water if you don’t have any), dash of cooking wine and white pepper
- Saute the onions in a small frying pan till they turn translucent and then add the chicken (I added sliced shitake mushrooms too)
- Once chicken pieces are half cooked, add enough egg mixture to cover onions and chicken half way
- Start scooping out the rice into a bowl
- When the egg mixture is three quarters cooked, gently slide everything from the pan onto the top of the rice
- Garnish with seaweed slice or bonito flakes
Its preferable if the frying pan is approximately the same size as your bowl, so that the sliding can be done easily but if you don’t care (like me), just scoop it all up and dump it onto the rice.
I make awesome breakfasts/ brunch. Above represents the perfect balance between sweet and savoury in a meal. Pancakes, sausages and scrambled eggs. Yum!
I bought a pack of ume (plum) soumen from Isetan’s supermarket last Friday after I had my wisdom tooth removed (retail therapy). Today, I could finally slide some into my mouth and chew! Perfect summer food. Below is my roast chicken with my secret sauce. Ok…not so secret since it’s just oyster sauce, honey, mirin, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. That greenish whitish patch is stir fried cabbage with garlic and egg. Simple but yet yummy lunch! Especially for someone who still can’t open her mouth fully to eat :((((
Hope you guys are cooking up a storm and do let me know if you’ve tried any of my recipes!
