Yet another vampire movie in the latest slew of vampire-related films such as “Twilight” and “Daybreak”. This time round, “Cirque du freak – The Vampire’s Assistant” is an adaptation from a children’s series so the feel of the movie is light-hearted compared to the ‘star-crossed’ lovers of “Twilight”.

This movie tells the story of Darren Shan, who turns into a half-vampire in order to save the life of his best friend, Steve. Unbeknownst to him, he’s part of a Mr. Tiny’s plan to create a war between the vampires and the vamper-I-can’t-remember-the-full-name (those who drain ALL the blood of their victims).

I liked the witty humour and that this movie didn’t try too hard with special effects etc. It is entertaining enough, like flipping through a children’s novel. It isn’t exactly gripping but neither does it bore you. 1 thumb up! 🙂
